From 2000: Mike graduated from the University of Denver and got his law degree there as well (and a Phi Beta Kappa key). He has been practicing law since 1976 and now is a principal in the firm of Burg Simpson Eldredge & Hersh, PC. His law partners include former United States Senator Alan K. Simpson (Wyoming), and they have offices in Denver, Cheyenne, Cody, and Washington, D.C.

During the early years of his law practice, Mike represented professional athletes in several sports along with getting wide experience in general litigation. Since then he has become a certified NFLPA Contract Advisor, received the American Jurisprudence Award in Conflict of Laws, and become an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Denver College of Law, teaching courses on Sports Law and Entertainment Law. His famous clients have included NFL players Vance Johnson, Paul Green and Andre Bruce. He has also tried over 150 jury trials, focusing on commercial litigation.

Mike lives in Englewood, Colorado with his wife Kathy, who has appeared in many movies and television shows under the name of Kathryn Christopher. She is also on the executive committee and a National Board member of Screen Actors Guild. Mike and Kathy have four children. Reese, 31, is a Navy fighter pilot. Samantha, 26, is a physical therapist-EMT. Scott, 21, attends the University of Colorado where he is an offensive lineman. And Stephen, 19, attends the University of Wyoming and plays football there.
